Our House : Living Room

WORLD! Just when you thought I had turned into a frazzled new mom that spends her spare time changing diapers, scrubbing muddy paw prints out of the carpet and basically doing anything OTHER than decorating, I got up at 5am (thanks to Fern licking herself on the bed) to post these photos and announce our living room is DUNZO. To say this room didn't take long to complete is like saying Bruce Jenner isn't transitioning into a woman. It has been almost four years since we moved into our house and while this room wasn't necessarily empty that whole time, it certainly didn't look like this.

I knew when we bought this joint that decorating it was going to be a labor of love. I love our house so much that I want to live here forever. Like, until I die. This means we will need to get one of those motorized chair things to transport me up and down our steep, narrow, not-up-to-code staircase and I'm okay with that. So with that in mind, I've been trying to let each room come together over time (I mean, you don't just collect an 8" stack of J Crew catalogues for the side table overnight) vs. racing out to West Elm to load up on stuff I'd probably get sick of.

This is the first room you see when you walk in our house. It's also kind of connected to the kitchen so when peeps come over, this is where we hang. Or at least this is where I will now force us to hang and sit our asses in the custom upholstered wing backs that I waited like five months for. Doing like I do, I had been collecting inspiration since we put an offer down. I wanted this space (and the rest of our house) to feel collected and homey and represent US (Jack, Woody, Fern, Rosy and the voices in my head that told me to mix an embroidered Mexican throw pillow with a buffalo plaid throw blanket). Below are photos of how everything turned out. And while I don't wanna sound like a Bragging Bonnie, I do have to say I'm proud of how it finally came together.

P.S. A shout out to my mom who made the quilt / wall hanging.  :)

Woody's Birth Announcements

carla fahden

Okay, I'm back. Where was I? I would blog a lot more if I could just sing a little ditty and it would somehow translate into a post. These days the only words coming outta my mouth at this hour are in song form as Jack and I belt out tune after tune to little Woody from the moment he wakes up to the moment we drop him at school. While a fair share of the songs are custom compositions about Woody and his diaper, we (I) also sing Shake Your Booty, Who Let The Dogs Out and Madonna's Express Yourself. So he's got that going for him. So really, where was I? It's been like four months since I last posted. Let's see... there was that time I accidentally ate canned dog food. Like many other normal people, I do a little bit when mixing canned dog food into Fern and Rosy's dry kibble. To add value to their meal and make it more desireable I say things like "mmm Jack, have you tried this tuna and gravy?" or "ooh this is my favorite kind" or "Jack do you care if I give them a little of your salmon cutlets?" (I say that last one in a serious tone). It really gets the girls going. Then before I give them their bowls I lick the fork. What they don't know is that I lick it slightly ABOVE where the gooey canned food is! Except that one time.

There was  the time I realized my hair is starting to grow back! I also realized the little baby hairs coming in make my hairline look like Steve Carell's 'do in Foxcatcher. Yes, due to being prego, stress and probably the fact that I only wash it 1-3 times per month, some of my hair fell out a while ago (hot).

There was also that one time I illustrated and designed a stationery suite for our little Woody and actually had the time to style and photograph the printed pieces. This was back when I was on maternity leave and he was just a little lump that snoozed all the time. Today I wanted to share how the pieces turned out. I'm feeling guilty for not sending out Christmas cards this year so I thought I'd point out how much time I spent on these bad boys (eh hem, I hand-cut and assembled 200 envelope liners). Anyhoo, I hope you likey. And if you're interested in custom stationery, hit me up, yo!
