Pretty Porches

carla fahden

It's hard to believe that it was

already two years ago that Jack and I moved into our house and spent 4+ months living in our three-season screened porch (with two 65lb goldendoodles) during a somewhat major remodel. We ate dinner on the bed every night. And by dinner I mean delivery pizza as there was no working kitchen… instead we had a microwave and coffee maker stationed on the floor beneath a wardrobe rack. I remember one time Rosy tore into a box of Q-Tips while we were at work and I didn't even bother to clean them up because somehow 10,000 muddy chewed up cotton swabs seemed to fit the overall ambiance. Yes, it was quite the situation. And by situation, I mean living hell.

It's finally warming up in Minnie and starting to turn green. Pretty soon our trees will be filled in and we'll have full privacy from our neighbors. Since my work travel is coming to an end in a couple weeks (thanks to my very pregnant belly), I plan to spend my summer weekends bopping between our deck and screened porch with a glass of lemonade and a stack of US Weekly - I mean Parenting Magazine.

Our porch still needs proper furniture, art and a ceiling fan that doesn't give me the heebie jeebies, but regardless, there's no beating watching the boob tube amidst a healthy cross breeze. Someday down the road I hope our porch will end up looking like one of these pretty spaces.
